Top Activities in Gran Canaria

Obviously there are A LOT of activities to do, and we think its best to visit a page such as tripadvisor for researching providers of excursions etc. However, here is a list of activities that we have tried ourselves, often repeatedly over the years that we can recommend - a "best of" so to speak.

Palmitos Park

This botanical garden and zoo has been around for as long as I can remember - I first visited the park about 35 years ago as a young boy, last ime in 2022 with some friends and many times in between.
I believe for anyone who likes animals and nature, this is an absolute highlight and a must-do if your time and budget allows it. Next to tropical plants like cactee, orchids and palmtrees there are more than 1000 tropical bires, a dolphine show, aquarium and europes biggest butterfly house.

We recommend going early while its not too hot.

Poema del Mar Aquarium

This aquarium, which translates to "poem of the sea", is our number one bad weather activity recommendation or a great add-on if you are going to Las Palmas for a day trip. Its great for children and very educational. There are over 350 kinds of fish, birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. The deep sea aquarium is the highlight with 5,5 millions of liters of water, showing stingrays, tuna, sharks and much more.

There can be long waits to buy tickets, we recommend buying the tickets online.

Sioux City

This western town was built in the 70ies as a backdrop for a western movie and has developed to be a fascinating theme park. Its great for kids and older western fans alike. For an extra fee you can ride a horse through a canyon or enjoy a barbecue. There are different shows (shootouts/duels, horses...) and a few shops as well.

Discovering the island

Gran Canaria has so much more to offer than beaches and shopping centers. Sadly many people miss out on much of the beauty. The mountains and towns of the central area, the beautiful nature on the north-west of the island and the old towns of Las Palmas, Arucas and Teror, just to name a few. We help our guest design custom day trips based of their preferences.

Diving

The Canaries are not exactly famous for diving, however in my opinion - someonoe who has dived in some of the worlds most famous dive destinations like Bali, Thailand, Palau etc - it is defintely worthwile and underestimated. There are some great wrecks and some beautiful reefs, and while there are no corals there is a diverse array of sea life including rays, angel sharks, morays, turtles and much more.
