Restaurants: Our "Best of" List

Our top choices on Gran Canaria

There are a lot of restaurants on Gran Canaria, however it can be hard to distinguish the truly great ones from the tourist traps. Google and other review sites are often not very helpful here - let's face it, many people will give it 5 stars very liberally, and we have been to "4 star" restaurants that we would never recomend to anybody.

Many of the stylish, modern looking places with great views by the sea don't hold up to expectations food or service wise unfortunatly, while others are ok but severly overpriced.

While tastes vary and we will probably not nail it every time, these are places that are heavily frequented by tourists and locals alike and that we have recommended to friends and guests from different countries with very good feedback.

Best of... Seafood

Rias Bajas, Playa del Ingles
Avenida Tirajana 26, next to Yumb
Price: €€€

This is a galician restaurant, Galicia is the part of Spain north of Portugal and very famous for its seafood and fish. While the restaurant from the outside does not look like much, the quality of the food - specially seafood and fish - is outstanding. We can recommend the Pulpo Gallega as a starter and the Zarzuela for 2 or more people as a main course, paired with a nice Albarino white whine.

Best of... Fusion

Valle de Mogan, Pueblo de Mogan
Calle Los Pasitos, numero 2
Price: €€€

Fusion between Thai and canarian food, degustation menu or a la carte, great experience either way! They should really have at leat one michelin star in my opinion. Nice selection of whines and beautiful scenery too. I often have the tuna sashimi as a starter and the curry with tenderloin, and one of my favorite deserts on the island, gofio ice cream with bienmesabe (corn flour ice cream with a sauce made from almonds and honey)!

Best of... Sushi

Sushi Crazy
Puerto Rico, Old shopping center (near upper end)
Price: €€

When restaurants were closed during lockdowns, these guys started a sushi delivery service and we celebrated when they opened up their shop in Puerto Rico. High quality ingredients, creative rolls and changing specials sets it apart from other sushi places (which are usually not specialised in sushi anyway). I love the brioche with steak tartar and then a sushi platter. If available, red tuna nigiri - specially the otoro variant - is a must for me.

Best of... Italian

Il Vespino Vecchio
Calle los Jazmines 4, San Augustin
Price €€

Great italian restaurant and one of my mothers all time favorites. Great pasta, if available you can pre-order the pasta with orange sauce in advance, worth it! The tuna tartar is great as a starter. Nice seating outside as well, lovely place for a romantic dinner or a classy lunch date.
